Owning Ch.
Innuendo's Peaches and Cream, Fch, a.k.a. "Peaches" was a dream of mine,
however I knew it would never come true.
One day, a couple months after Peaches whelped a litter by another one
of my all
time favorite whippets, "Jacob", the phone rang and it was Chris Durance in
Georgia.
She asked if I would like the opportunity to co-own a bitch from
this breeding with her.
I was in shock . . . and immediately said, "yes."
About 9 months later, almost half way to her championship, a Best in Sweeps win
and a couple reserves at Specialties and supported entries, Chris called me and asked if
I was ready for Dorothy to move to Illinois.
I was dumbfounded at the
opportunity to co-own her, but for her to live in my house was way beyond
anything I thought would ever be possible (especially since this was Peaches
last litter and Dorothy
was one of two bitches born). I told Chris that
there was no way I could finish a solid brindle dog in the
Mid-West (which at
the time was home of the parti-colored whippet).
Chris said don't be
foolish . . . color is immaterial and I don't want to ever hear anything from
you
about
solids not being able to win . . . so Dorothy came to live with me. I
finished her championship
with a three majors within 6 weeks of her coming to live with
me.
I then promised Chris that I would never complain about color again.
Dorothy was later
bred to my first homebred Champion
Hycks Hollow Rhett Butler (Perry x Classie),
this breeding
resulted in a solid brindle bitch that I have at home,
Ch. HyxH
Cherche' Lady of the Lake.
Dorothy was later
bred to Ch. Cherche' The Memory Remains, JC (Perry x Thelma) and that litter
resulted
in a beautiful red bitch that looks very much like her grandmother, Peaches.
Her name is
Ch. Hycks Hollow Heart and Soul, a.k.a. "Liv."
Dorothy is very
proud of her brother that is owned by Wendy Gay of
Grand Prix whippets in
California.
He is Multi Best in Field Dual Ch. Innenduo's Bengali of GP,
CD, DPC, OTR, SRE. Tigger is also a CWA race
meet winner and a 1999 AWC
National Triathlon top 10 winner. To
our knowledge Tigger is the only Peaches child left.
We lost Dorothy to
cancer November 11, 2008
